Do mussels have eyes?
They don’t have eyes to see, but mussels have special adaptations to bring the host fish to them.
How do clams See?
Our simple answer is “They can see you!”. Giant clams possess several hundred small pinhole eyes (or also known as ‘hyaline organs’) on the exposed mantle (Kawaguti & Mabuchi 1969; Land 2003). These ‘eyes’ are light-sensitive, which allows them to detect changes in light levels, i.e. dark versus light.

Can you eat clams raw?
The clam, sometimes seen as a poor cousin to the oyster, can also be enjoyed both raw and cooked. Best raw are tiny littlenecks or mid-sized cherrystones. Others, like quahogs or mahogany, are too chewy to be eaten raw, but are perfect for chowders and other cooked preparations.
